The Curious Connection

The only time Amanda felt like she existed was when she walked past an all-boys school. The boys were constantly trying to talk to her, asking her name or saying hello to her. Of course she pretended not to hear them.

From Reader To Writer

I have always been very passionate about reading. I would read anything - from books to the back of cereal boxes, to nasi lemak packaging. Blessed with a short memory, I can reread a book several times without the book losing its appeal. Needless to say, I'm a book hoarder. I can't part with books I can't remember reading.
Not too long ago, I was asked to do proof reading and quality control for language software which my company was marketing. The software developers and language experts saw something in me which I hadn't realized myself. There was a writer in me, waiting to get out. They gave me the opportunity to write short stories which would be converted into a software for primary and secondary students.
From there, I got the extraordinary opportunity to write for Nickelodeon. At this point, I was astonished that Nickelodeon approved my stories. I was a real writer!
Writing gave me wings. I now had the confidence to approach other organisations who were searching for freelance writers. Little by little, my wings were getting stronger. I joined writing groups and entered writing competitions. I started writing a novel.
My other passion is education. With the confidence I got from writing, and the experience I had as a phonics trainer, I developed my own phonics programme. The first book is in production as I write this.
Somehow, with all this happening over the past few months (5 months to be exact), I still found time to read. I've read easily 10 books within the same time frame. And this is on top of being a full time mother to two homeschooled teenagers who are preparing for exams later this year. So yeah, it all boils down to passion. When you're passionate about something, you find a way to make it work!
This blog serves as a reminder of the work I've done as a writer. It's not a comprehensive collection, but it contains everything that I could get my hands on.
